GrocerScout (“GrocerScout,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a grocery deals and price-comparison tool. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using GrocerScout, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
Account details — your email address and password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored in hashed form; we never see your plain-text password.
Your ZIP code — used to find and show deals near you.
Your activity in the app — items you add to your watchlist or shopping list, stores you choose to hide, your notification preferences, and any invite code you redeem.
Feedback you submit — when you use “Report an Issue,” we receive your description and limited context such as the screen you were on, your app version, device or browser type, and any optional screenshot you choose to attach.
Information collected automatically:
Push notification tokens — only if you enable notifications, so we can deliver the alerts you ask for.
Basic technical and usage data — such as app version and general device or browser information needed to operate and secure the service.
We do not request or store payment card numbers directly. If you purchase a subscription, payment is handled by the app store or our payment processor (see Section 4).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
Show you grocery deals relevant to your ZIP code;
Operate your account and manage beta or subscription access;
Send the alerts and notifications you opt into;
Respond to your feedback and support requests;
Maintain, secure, and improve the service.
3. About the Deal Information in the App
The sale and price information shown in GrocerScout is aggregated from publicly available retailer promotions. This deal content is not your personal information. GrocerScout’s product is the tools we build around this information — the alerts, comparisons, and organization — not the underlying deal data itself.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:
Service providers who help us operate the app under contract, such as our cloud hosting, database, authentication, and notification-delivery providers. These providers process data only on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Payment processors — if you subscribe, your payment is processed by the Apple App Store, Google Play, or our payment processor, who handle your payment details under their own privacy policies. We receive only your subscription status, not your card details.
Legal reasons — if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of GrocerScout or others.
Business transfers — if GrocerScout is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
5. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Access and correction — you can view and update your ZIP code, watchlist, shopping list, store preferences, and notification settings directly in the app.
Notifications — you can turn push notifications off at any time in Settings or in your device’s notification controls.
Deletion — you can permanently delete your account and associated personal data at any time in the app under Settings → Subscription & Account → Delete Account, or by contacting us at the address below.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information; contact us to exercise them.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls on our backend. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children’s Privacy
GrocerScout is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have done so, we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of GrocerScout after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
